INCONEL 625 Machinability

Nickel-based superalloy INCONEL 625 is currently an important high-temperature alloy material used in high-end applications such as aerospace, nuclear power, and military equipment. It is the most widely used metal material for the manufacture of aeroengine components, thermal equipment components, and nuclear power equipment components; Compared with alloys, nickel-based superalloys have better high-temperature resistance; the domestic nickel-based superalloy material system is close to that of the industrial powers such as the United States, Germany, and Japan. In terms of forging standards, manufacturing processes, heat treatment methods, and supply forms The top class is almost consistent. It's just that the imported steel mill INCONEL 625 materials have different advantages and slightly different compositions. Let PTJ give you an analysis one by one today.

Secondly, the microstructure of the nickel-based superalloy, that is, the nature, morphology, size, content and distribution of each constituent phase, especially the precipitated phase, determines its high temperature mechanical properties and operating life. However, the microstructure of the alloy is determined by its composition. Therefore, the source of determining alloy performance lies in the alloy component itself, that is, the type and content of each element constituting the alloy component. Let us look at the composition of INCONEL 625 alloy:

  • Rm N / mm2 Yield strength
  • RP0.2N / mm2 elongation
  • A5% Brinell hardness
  • HB
  • 625 760 345 30 ≤220

This alloy has the following characteristics:

  • 1. It has excellent corrosion resistance to various corrosive media in oxidizing and reducing environments
  • 2. Excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, and will not produce stress corrosion cracking caused by chloride
  • 3. Excellent corrosion resistance to inorganic acids, such as nitric acid, phosphoric acid, sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid and mixed acids of sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid, etc.
  • 4. Excellent resistance to corrosion of various inorganic acid mixed solutions
  • 5. When the temperature reaches 40 ℃, it can show good corrosion resistance in various concentrations of hydrochloric acid solution
  • 6. Good workability and weldability, no cracking sensitivity after welding
  • 7. Manufacture certification of pressure vessel with wall temperature between -196 ~ 450 ℃
  • 8. Certified by the American Society of Corrosion Engineers NACE standard (MR-01-75) to meet the highest standard level VII for use in acid gas environments

● Inconel 625 metallographic structure

625 is a face-centered cubic lattice structure. When kept at about 650 ℃ for a long enough time, carbon particles and unstable quaternary phase will be precipitated and converted into stable Ni3 (Nb, Ti) orthorhombic lattice phase. After solid solution strengthening, the molybdenum and niobium components in the nickel-chromium matrix will improve the mechanical properties of the material, but the plasticity will be reduced.

● Inconel 625 corrosion resistance

Alloy 625 shows excellent corrosion resistance in many media. It has excellent resistance to pitting corrosion, crevice corrosion, intergranular corrosion and erosion in chloride media. It has good corrosion resistance to inorganic acids, such as nitric acid, phosphoric acid, sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, etc. At the same time, it has resistance to alkali and organic acid corrosion in oxidizing and reducing environments. Effective resistance to chloride ion-reducing stress corrosion cracking. There is almost no corrosion in seawater and industrial gas environments, and it has high corrosion resistance to seawater and salt solutions, even at high temperatures. No sensitivity during welding. It is resistant to carbonization and oxidation in static or circulating environments, and is resistant to corrosion by chlorine-containing gases.

● Inconel 625 application areas

The softened and annealed low-carbon alloy 625 is widely used in the chemical process industry. Its good corrosion resistance and high strength make it a thinner structural component. Alloy 625 can be used in applications that come into contact with seawater and withstand high mechanical stress. Typical application areas:

  • 1. Components of chloride-containing organic chemical processes, especially where acid chloride catalysts are used
  • 2. Digester and bleaching tank used in the manufacture of pulp and paper industry
  • 3. Absorption tower, reheater, flue gas inlet baffle, fan (wet), agitator, deflector, and flue in the flue gas desulfurization system
  • 4. Used to manufacture equipment and components used in acid gas environment
  • 5. Acetic acid and acetic anhydride reaction generator
  • 6. Sulfuric acid condenser

It is found from INCONEL 625 that a higher content of easily oxidizable alloy elements such as chromium, molybdenum, cobalt, titanium and other strengthening elements are needed. These easily oxidizable element alloys and nickel metals themselves become important elements of harmful impurities in the alloy, especially sulfur and phosphorus Source, the content of harmful impurity elements S and P in nickel-based superalloys is required to be less than 0.010-0.020%.
---------------------------------------
Furthermore, high-temperature alloy forming methods mainly include forging and casting. The process of casting uses the fluidity of the liquid superalloy to fill the mold cavity to form the desired product. Forging is a technological process in which a high-temperature alloy undergoes solid-state high-temperature thermoplastic deformation to fill the mold cavity, thereby forming the desired product. Both have advantages and disadvantages. Among them, casting is good at forming complex-shaped parts, and forging is based on improving product performance.
